RICHMOND, Va. (May 29, 2008) -- Three Colonial Athletic Association men's
lacrosse student-athletes earned Honorable Mention All-America honors from
the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) earlier this
week. The league also boasted five draft picks during the 2008 Major League
Lacrosse Draft, May 28.
Delaware's Curtis Dickson was the first of three All-America honorable
mention honorees. Dickson, a sophomore from Port Coquitlam, British
Columbia, was among the top offensive players in the country throughout the
season and led the CAA in goals scored and total points. The First Team
All-CAA selection, and also a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy handed out
May 29, led the Blue Hens with 62 points on 46 goals and 16 assists.
Dickson ended the season with a goal-scoring streak of 25-straight games,
the third longest in school history.
Hofstra's Anthony Muscarella earned USILA Honorable Mention All-America
honors as a midfielder. The Wantagh, N.Y., native was an All-CAA first team
selection this year and led the Pride in scoring with 28 goals and 14
assists for a team-high 42 points in 16 games. Muscarella scored two or more
goals in seven games including six goals against Stony Brook and five goals
against Towson. He has played in 42 games during his three-year career at
Hofstra and has tallied 44 goals and 16 assists.
Drexel goalkeeper Bruce Bickford, the 2008 CAA Player of the Year, logged
the third Honorable Mention All-America honor from the USILA. Bickford, the
first-ever goalie to win league Player of the Year honors, finished the
season with a league-best 6.99 goals-against average. The Providence, R.I.,
native, ranked fourth in the country with a save percentage of .629 and
averaged more than 11.5 saves a contest in 2008.
Hofstra's Kevin Unterstein was the first of five CAA Men's Lacrosse players
taken in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. Unterstein, the
league's Defensive Player of the Year in 2008, was taken by New Jersey with
the 20th overall pick. Later in the draft Delaware's Brett Manney went to
Washington (31st overall). Long Island took Hofstra's Mike Unterstein in
the fourth round (35th overall) and later landed Towson's Jonathan Engelke
with the 40th overall selection. Rounding out the five CAA players taken
was Sacred Heart's Tony Tanzi, who went 46th overall to Boston.
